Stroke remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally, with hypertension being the most significant risk factor, especially among women (World Health Organization, 2024). Studies have shown that hypertensive women are at a higher risk of developing stroke due to biological, hormonal, and lifestyle factors (Aliyu & Usman, 2023). Effective stroke prevention requires early identification of risk factors, patient education, lifestyle modifications, and proper medication adherence—all of which are core responsibilities of cardiac nurses (Bello et al., 2023).
Cardiac nurses play a crucial role in stroke prevention by monitoring blood pressure, educating patients on risk reduction strategies, and promoting adherence to antihypertensive therapy (Ibrahim & Yusuf, 2024). In Borno State, where healthcare infrastructure is challenged by security concerns and accessibility issues, the role of cardiac nurses becomes even more vital in preventing stroke among hypertensive women. However, limited research has been conducted on how effectively cardiac nurses contribute to stroke prevention in the region. This study seeks to investigate the role of cardiac nurses in reducing stroke risk among hypertensive women in Borno State.
Despite growing awareness of stroke prevention, hypertension remains poorly controlled among women in Borno State, leading to high rates of stroke-related disabilities and deaths (Ahmed & Yusuf, 2023). Many women fail to recognize the early signs of hypertension and do not adhere to recommended lifestyle changes or medication regimens, increasing their vulnerability to stroke.
Cardiac nurses are strategically positioned to intervene through education, early detection, and proper management of hypertension. However, their role in stroke prevention has not been thoroughly assessed in Borno State. Understanding their impact will help optimize nursing interventions and improve patient outcomes.
This study will focus on cardiac nurses working in hospitals and primary healthcare centers in Borno State. The limitations may include difficulty in accessing data due to security challenges and variations in patient adherence to medical recommendations.
